Jamal Shead has secured his next deal in Toronto, agreeing to a three-year, $24 million extension that keeps the Raptors guard under contract through the 2029-30 season.
A second-unit fixture gets paid
Shead, the No. 45 selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, has quickly become a dependable part of Toronto’s guard rotation. The 6-foot-1 playmaker appeared in every one of the Raptors’ 82 regular-season games and led the NBA in bench assists with 345.
- Contract extension: three years, $24 million
- Team: Toronto Raptors
- Draft position: 45th overall in 2024
- Contract status: signed through 2029-30
- Regular-season availability: 82 games played
- Bench production: league-high 345 assists
Playoff work against Cleveland
Toronto leaned on Shead during its seven-game first-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 assists per game while creating extra possessions on the defensive end, posting 1.4 steals a night.
The extension rewards a reserve guard who has already shown he can manage a second unit, push the pace and stay available across the full schedule. For the Raptors, it also gives the backcourt another cost-controlled piece beyond the immediate season.
