Jordan Pickford Faces Court Hearing After Careless Driving Guilty Plea

In Cheshire, Jordan Pickford’s next appearance away from the pitch is set for 7 December after the England goalkeeper admitted a careless-driving offence connected to an incident involving his Lamborghini on 14 April.

The Everton goalkeeper entered his guilty plea in writing and has asked for a court hearing to present mitigation. A previous hearing was postponed, leaving Pickford due before magistrates in the north-west of England next month.

Quick facts

  • Pickford has pleaded guilty to careless driving.
  • The incident took place on 14 April at the junction of Princess Street and Toft Road.
  • Two motorists were forced to brake sharply after he failed to give way, police said.
  • He was alleged to have reached 80km/h in a 48km/h zone during a police pursuit.
  • A Cheshire court hearing is scheduled for 7 December.

The case centres on an allegation that Pickford drove through give-way markings at the Princess Street and Toft Road junction, creating a near collision and making two other drivers brake heavily.

Police also said he did not stop when signalled to do so, prompting a pursuit. His Lamborghini was said to have travelled at 80km/h in an area where the limit was 48km/h before he eventually pulled over at the roadside.

Earlier incidents

The court case adds to a record of off-field episodes involving the 32-year-old. Four years ago, he was caught up in a large fight at a bar in East Boldon, South Tyneside, after people there mocked him over his “small arms”.

A man suffered a broken nose during that confrontation, although there was no evidence that Pickford delivered the blow. In 2019, he was filmed in another punch-up at a Sunderland pub and had to be restrained by several people.

He was also seen partly unclothed at a party after Euro 2020 in 2021. The most serious controversy surrounding his football has remained the injury to Virgil van Dijk, after which Pickford received threats and hired a bodyguard.
