Portugal’s Nations League week moves from Copenhagen to Porto with an unresolved Cristiano Ronaldo question following Jorge Jesus, the national team coach, into Sunday’s meeting with Norway at the Estádio do Dragão.
Jesus has said he will address the matter after Portugal’s final match of the current 2026/27 Nations League international window, but declined to discuss it before or after Thursday’s game against Denmark in the Danish capital.
Speaking shortly before the Denmark fixture, the coach said he was calm despite what he described as a hectic few days. He insisted he had done nothing to interrupt the normal course of events and said his conscience was clear.
“Cristiano is a symbol and an important figure, there is no question about that,” Jesus said. “After the Norway match, we will talk about this subject. I will not hide from it or run away from it.”
Porto date set for explanation
The match against Norway at Porto’s Dragão will be Portugal’s last assignment of the international break. Jesus made clear that the team’s immediate attention was on Denmark, followed by preparations for the Norwegian visit.
Asked again about the Ronaldo issue, he closed down further discussion for the day, saying the subject would not be raised around the Denmark match.
“Today is matchday and I want to concentrate on the game,” Jesus said. “Then we go to the Dragão and focus on the Norway game. Afterwards, we will certainly have time to speak about it. For now, the matter is closed.”
Ronaldo had started in Jesus’ first match in charge of Portugal, and the coach’s promised comments after Sunday’s Porto fixture will bring clarity to a story that has followed the squad through this international window.
