In Qatar, Joselu Mato is staying on the Gulf football map. The 36-year-old Spanish forward has joined Al-Sailiya after completing his two-season spell with Al-Gharafa, continuing a career that has moved from Madrid’s European nights to the Qatar Stars League.
The news from the club
Al-Sailiya have officially confirmed the signing of Joselu, who was available after leaving Al-Gharafa. The club have turned to the striker’s experience and finishing ability, with the former Real Madrid player expected to be a central figure from the start of his time there.
Joselu arrives after producing strong numbers across his two campaigns at Al-Gharafa. He played 58 matches in Qatar, scoring 28 goals and supplying five assists.
The move makes Al-Sailiya the second Qatari club of his career and takes him into a third consecutive season in the country.
From Madrid glory to a new Qatari chapter
Before heading to Qatar, Joselu enjoyed a memorable season at Real Madrid. He played a decisive role in the club’s Champions League triumph and also won LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup during that spell.
The forward also has international honours with Spain, having been part of the squad that won Euro 2024. Now, at 36, he begins a fresh assignment with Al-Sailiya, bringing a proven scoring record and major-match experience to his new club.
