Madrid’s early-season uncertainty has not stopped Jude Bellingham from strengthening his bond with Real Madrid. The England midfielder has reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract to June 2031, adding two years to a deal that had been due to run out in 2029.
The 23-year-old has become one of the reference points of José Mourinho’s opening months at the Bernabéu, even as the European champions search for greater consistency in La Liga. Real Madrid sit fourth, six points behind leaders Barcelona, but Bellingham has supplied four goals and six assists across 14 appearances.
A longer stay in the Spanish capital
Bellingham arrived from Borussia Dortmund in June 2023 in a transfer worth €103 million. His first spell in Spain has already delivered major silverware, including the 2023-24 Champions League, the 2023-24 Spanish title and the 2024 Intercontinental Cup.
The planned extension would take the midfielder’s commitment beyond the end of the decade, underlining Madrid’s intention to keep a central figure of their current generation at the club through 2031.
Mourinho’s early reliance on Bellingham
With Mourinho beginning his work in the capital, Bellingham has remained prominent despite the side’s uneven league form. His output of 10 direct goal contributions in 14 matches has given Madrid an important source of invention and finishing while they attempt to reduce the gap at the top of the table.
