Karim Adeyemi Stars as Barcelona Hit Seven Against Racing Santander

Barcelona’s seven-goal night against Racing de Santander at the Spotify Camp Nou carried plenty of scorers, but Karim Adeyemi supplied much of the movement that unsettled the visitors. The 24-year-old German, deployed on the left, did not find the net in the 7-2 win, yet his pace, direct running and late assist made him one of the defining figures of the evening.

Adeyemi gives Barcelona another surge of energy

From the opening exchanges, Adeyemi repeatedly stretched Racing’s back line. His combination with Cancelo turned Barcelona’s left flank into a route of constant danger, with the German attacking space, taking on defenders and forcing the visiting defence to retreat. It was the kind of aggressive running Hansi Flick has demanded from him since backing the player during the summer.

Adeyemi came close to scoring after Pedri released him with a vertical pass. He controlled the ball and tried to lift it over Agirrezabala, but his chipped effort drifted narrowly wide. The missed chance did little to slow his influence. He continued to create openings, win fouls and bring an element of unpredictability whenever Barcelona found him in space.

Two penalties came from his bursts into the area. The second followed another acceleration, with Iker Luque bringing Adeyemi down inside the box. Raphinha converted from the spot to complete his hat-trick.

Even with the contest settled, Adeyemi continued to drive forward. In the 89th minute, he won the ball back, carried it past opponents and entered the penalty area before choosing the pass for Lamine Yamal, who finished to make it 7-2. Adeyemi nearly added a goal of his own in stoppage time with an acrobatic attempt that drew applause from the Camp Nou crowd.

His overall figures underlined how deeply he was involved rather than simply waiting for counter-attacking opportunities. Adeyemi registered eight shots, completed six dribbles, created four chances and made five recoveries. He also delivered two crosses, won four fouls and was responsible for both penalties.

Across 74 involvements, he attempted 42 passes and completed 85.7 per cent of them. For Barcelona, the performance offered another indication that Flick’s faith in the German forward is beginning to produce a player capable of contributing far beyond his speed.
