Manchester City moved to calm a growing storm on Saturday, with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak insisting the club’s fight against Premier League financial allegations is far from over.
The response followed reports claiming City had been found liable on 114 of the 115 charges brought against them under the league’s financial regulations. The club has not accepted those conclusions, and Al Mubarak said its resolve to establish its innocence remained unchanged.
“What I have told my family is that the Premier League process is still a long way from being completed,” Al Mubarak said. “Our confidence and determination to prove the club’s innocence remain as strong as ever.”
The 51-year-old Emirati executive said the confidential nature of the legal process prevented him from discussing the case in detail. He pointed supporters towards the club’s earlier public statements on the matter, issued in 2023 and 2025.
City urge supporters to remain patient
Al Mubarak sought to strike a defiant note amid intense speculation, saying that outside noise had not altered the club’s position. He argued that Manchester City had previously come through difficult periods and would do so again.
“Some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, but despite all the noise, nothing has changed,” he said. “We have faced challenges together before and overcome them. There are still many people trying to halt the progress of our club, but we will not give them that opportunity. There are good moments ahead after the international break.”
The potential consequences remain serious should City ultimately be found to have breached Premier League rules. Available sanctions could range from a warning to removal from the competition, while the ongoing proceedings continue to hang over the English champions.
