The Bundesliga summer ranking is based on performance, not reputation. The assessment covers the first half of 2026 and includes club and international football.
The sporting fact
The ranking has been published twice a year since 1956. Editors assess players through discussion and voting, with form during the review period carrying the decisive weight.
Potential is not a criterion. Goals, assists, match ratings and duel statistics matter, but they are not judged in isolation. The wider impression from close observation of players and clubs is also part of the process.
For the 2026 summer edition, the review begins with matches played from 1 January. It includes league fixtures, domestic cups, European competitions and international appearances, including the World Cup.
Players need a sufficient number of rated competitive matches for their clubs to qualify.
| Competition | Minimum rated club appearances |
|---|---|
| Bundesliga | 10 |
| 2. Bundesliga | 9 |
| 3. Liga | 10 |
The different thresholds reflect the unequal number of league matches played after the winter break.
German players based abroad are assessed under separate appearance requirements. Their qualifying matches must last at least 25 minutes, with the total needed varying between leagues because of different competition formats.
