From the France camp, an uncomfortable note has travelled back to Madrid: Kylian Mbappé was forced off after suffering apparent discomfort in his left knee during France’s match against Turkey.
The Real Madrid forward had given France the lead, but his evening changed soon afterwards when he began to show clear signs of pain. Medical staff came onto the pitch to assess him, with Mbappé receiving treatment for several minutes.
He initially attempted to continue, returning to the field after the examination, yet could not see out the match. France ultimately replaced the striker, who was able to leave the pitch on foot.
Madrid await the extent of the problem
There is no confirmed diagnosis in the immediate aftermath, but the episode will inevitably be watched closely in the Spanish capital. Mbappé’s goal had put France in front against Turkey; the concern now is whether the left-knee issue that ended his involvement will require further assessment before he returns to club duties.
