La Cartuja Crowds Put Real Betis Among Europe’s Biggest Matchday Draws

La Cartuja is making an early statement on Europe’s match-going map, with Real Betis drawing 267,046 spectators across four home fixtures in just 10 days.

The sequence brought visits from Osasuna, Porto, Barcelona and Feyenoord, underlining the scale of support behind the Seville club at the start of the campaign. The four attendances were 65,484 against Osasuna, 67,114 for Porto’s visit, 66,924 against Barcelona and 67,524 for the Champions League meeting with Feyenoord.

European crowds place La Cartuja among the leading venues

Betis have averaged 67,319 supporters for their two Champions League home matches, a figure that places La Cartuja seventh among all stadiums in the competition. It is also the third-highest average in Spain.

That return puts the stadium ahead of several of Europe’s established major venues, including the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

The Feyenoord match produced the strongest crowd of the four-game run, with 67,524 in attendance. It was the fourth-largest gate recorded across the third Champions League matchday, exceeded only by the crowds at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena and Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu.

Strong domestic backing too

The numbers are not confined to European nights. In LaLiga, Betis are averaging 63,147 spectators per home match at La Cartuja, the division’s third-best attendance figure behind only the Santiago Bernabéu and the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

With domestic and continental fixtures both attracting crowds above 65,000, La Cartuja has become one of the most heavily attended stages of the early European season.
