Barcelona’s latest La Liga night ended with seven goals, a Brazilian hat-trick and an unexpected shirt exchange that carried the colours of Teresina to Catalonia. After the 7-2 victory over Racing Santander at Camp Nou, Lamine Yamal posed with a River-PI jersey handed to him by Daniel Trajano, a supporter and sponsor of the Brazilian club.
Trajano, who travelled from Piauí to watch Barcelona, met the Spanish forward in the stadium car park after the match. Yamal had scored once in Barcelona’s sixth-round win, while Raphinha supplied three of the home side’s seven goals.
The meeting was a reunion rather than a first encounter. Trajano said he had previously met Yamal during a visit by the player to Brazil, and that the Barcelona attacker had invited him and his family to attend a match in the Catalan city. On this occasion, the visitor brought the River-PI shirt known as the Galo’s colours, and Yamal received it after the final whistle.
Barcelona’s emphatic result extended their perfect start to six consecutive league wins and kept the Catalan club at the top of La Liga. For Yamal, Spain’s 2026 world champion, the evening brought a small connection to a very different footballing landscape in north-eastern Brazil.
River-PI’s campaign in Teresina
River-PI, the most decorated club in Piauí football, are experiencing an unfamiliar season at home. The club are competing in the Campeonato Piauiense Second Division for the first time in their history and sit fourth with four points.
The Galo most recently drew 2-2 with Flamengo-PI in the return of the Rivengo derby after a four-year absence. The third-round fixture was played at Lindolfo Monteiro in Teresina.
River-PI return to the same stadium on 19 September, when Comercial-PI are due to provide their next Second Division test at 17:00.
