Lane Johnson Retires After 14 Seasons and Two Super Bowl Titles

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson has announced his retirement, bringing an end to a 14-year NFL career that included two Super Bowl championships, six Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honors.

Johnson’s decision came after he was unexpectedly ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams because of what the Eagles described as a personal matter. He announced his retirement Tuesday while still in his 14th NFL season.

One of the defining offensive linemen of the Eagles’ recent era, Johnson helped anchor Philadelphia teams that reached three Super Bowls and won two Lombardi Trophies. His combination of power, athleticism and pass-protection reliability made him a central piece of the club’s offensive front for more than a decade.

The Eagles now must move forward without their longtime veteran tackle as the season continues, replacing a player whose résumé places him among the franchise’s most accomplished modern linemen.
