Lazio Thrash Juventus 3-0 to Stay Level with Inter atop Serie A

Turin’s Allianz Stadium expected Juventus to build on their European lift after beating Celta Vigo, but Lazio turned the evening into a declaration of their own. Gennaro Gattuso’s unbeaten side won 3-0 away from home, remaining level with Inter at the top of Serie A after seven rounds.

The result sent Juventus down to seventh place, eight points behind the leaders. Lazio have dropped points only once so far, and their performance in Turin suggested that their fast start is built on more than momentum.

Lazio take control before the interval

From the opening stages, Lazio combined a forceful defensive display with enough threat in transition to unsettle their hosts. Juventus struggled to impose themselves, with Luciano Spalletti serving a suspension after his dismissal following the previous league match and an altercation with Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane. Assistant Marco Domenichini occupied the Juventus bench.

The breakthrough arrived in the 37th minute. Mattia Zaccagni was given too much room on the left by Nico González and delivered into the penalty area, where centre-back Oliver Provstgaard headed Lazio in front.

Nuno Tavares nearly doubled the advantage before half-time when his shot from the left took a deflection off Gleison Bremer and clipped the outside of the crossbar. Juventus went in at the break to whistles from the home crowd, with the side appearing short of ideas and direction.

Juventus response fades

Spalletti used the interval to change the shape, bringing Nick Woltemade on for Kerim Alajbegovic to support the isolated Randal Kolo Muani. The German forward had an early opening, then failed to hit the target after Kolo Muani found space down the left.

That was the strongest phase of Juventus’s second half, but it did not last. Lazio absorbed the early pressure and struck again on the counterattack in the 66th minute.

Gustav Isaksen, named man of the match, collected a pass from Nuno Tavares, shifted beyond Zeki Çelik and drove a low effort across goal into the far corner.

Juventus responded by replacing Douglas Luiz and Nico González with Francisco Conceição and Edon Zhegrova. Despite adding further attacking options, the home team created little and rarely tested Lazio.

Dele-Bashiru seals a Turin statement

The visitors completed the rout when Fikayo Dele-Bashiru surged forward from midfield without being stopped and finished with a diagonal strike for 3-0.

For Lazio, it was a major away victory and another confirmation of the resilience and intensity shaping Gattuso’s opening weeks in Rome. Juventus, meanwhile, must recover quickly after a night in which their European optimism gave way to a heavy domestic setback.
