Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 Clubs Called for Governance Reform Talks

French professional football’s next structural shift moved a step closer on Thursday morning, when the first political working-group meeting on governance reform took place at the French Football Federation. The discussion, lasting around two hours, focused on the broad framework for a future club company intended to replace the Ligue de Football Professionnel.

The move

Ligue 1 clubs have been called to a meeting next Wednesday to be briefed on the proposed changes. Ligue 2 clubs are also due to meet during the same week, ensuring that the full professional game is informed before the reform reaches its voting stage.

The planned new body would take the place of the LFP as part of a wider overhaul of how French professional football is governed. The initial working-group session at the FFF addressed the main direction of the future structure, although the reform still has to be completed and formally approved.

The French season around it

The FFF has postponed its federal assembly from 12 December to 9 January. The Professional Football League is expected to move its own assembly as well.

Those delays are designed to give officials time to finish the governance plan before putting it to votes at both assemblies. The target is to have the new arrangement ready to come into force at the start of next season.
