Lille’s young side found the nerve required in north London on Tuesday, holding off Arsenal’s late pressure to secure a 3-2 UEFA Youth League victory at Meadow Park. Stéphane Pichot’s team built a two-goal cushion before half-time, then stood firm after the hosts turned the second half into a siege.
A fast Lille response after Arsenal equaliser
LOSC had opened their Youth League campaign with a draw against Real Betis, but produced a far sharper display away from home to register their first win of the season in the competition.
- Ismaël Camara gave Lille the lead in the 15th minute after an assured opening from the visitors.
- Arsenal levelled through Joshua Ogunnaike on 28 minutes.
- Lille quickly regained control when Yeli Traoré converted a penalty in the 35th minute, awarded after Lucas Muamba was fouled.
- Saad Boussadia extended the advantage shortly before the interval, scoring in the 43rd minute to make it 3-1.
The French side had imposed their tempo during the opening period and were rewarded with three goals, leaving Arsenal with a substantial task after the break.
Arsenal push, Lille resist
The match did not become comfortable for Pichot’s players. Arsenal reduced the deficit in the 58th minute when Elijah Upson scored from a corner, setting up a tense final phase.
The London side pressed hard for a second equaliser, but Lille’s defence survived the pressure and protected the narrow advantage until the final whistle.
A long-awaited European youth win
The result marked Lille’s first Youth League victory in two years. Their previous success in the competition came in October 2024, when they beat Real Madrid 2-1.
That night also carried a notable senior-team echo: Lille’s first team defeated Real Madrid 1-0 a few hours later. Against Arsenal, it was the academy side that delivered the evening’s European statement, doing so shortly after Lens had beaten Sporting in their own youth fixture.
