Lucas Paquetá left the meeting with Estudiantes frustrated by a refereeing call that he felt had been judged too harshly, after receiving a yellow card in an incident involving Piovi.
The Brazilian midfielder spoke after a tense contest in which Piovi had appealed for Paquetá to be sent off. Paquetá challenged that interpretation of the episode, while insisting his side had delivered a committed performance despite the pressure around the match.
Attention now turns to Rio de Janeiro and the Maracanã, where Paquetá’s team will attempt to secure qualification. The return in Brazil offers the midfielder and his teammates a chance to settle the contest on home ground.
