Man City Fans Back Club Leadership with Etihad Banners Against PSG

Manchester City’s Champions League meeting with holders Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium unfolded against a charged backdrop, as supporters used the occasion to publicly defend the club’s leadership following findings of financial fair-play rule breaches.

With attention fixed on Manchester for Wednesday night’s major European fixture, banners in the home sections largely backed the current hierarchy and its record. One prominent message read: “We believe in Khaldoon. We have won it all,” referring to club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the Emirati official who leads City’s board.

Other displays turned their anger towards domestic rivals, particularly Liverpool and Manchester United, with some containing abusive language. The reaction followed weeks of criticism from opposition supporters after the ruling against City.

Etihad response after rival protests

Liverpool fans had made their position clear when City visited Anfield on Sunday. The Kop repeatedly displayed and chanted the word “Cheats”, turning it into the defining accusation directed at the Manchester club.

City supporters answered under the lights of the Champions League, choosing a night against the reigning European champions to show their backing for the people running the club.

Guardiola returns to support former club

Pep Guardiola, now a former Manchester City manager and a major figure in the club’s modern history, was at the Etihad for the PSG match to support his former players and colleagues.

The Spaniard, from Santpedor, had been among the earliest high-profile figures to voice support after the decision. In a social-media post published at the end of September, Guardiola wrote: “We will get through this together. I love you all.”

He also addressed City’s supporters directly during a period of uncertainty, adding: “I want every Manchester City fan to know that I am here, now more than ever.”
