Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old England youth international Karim Cassim from city rivals Manchester City, bringing one of the local academy scene’s emerging midfielders across town to Old Trafford.
The move has received the necessary Premier League approval and Cassim has now been registered by United. The club view the all-action midfielder as a significant long-term addition, with confidence that he can develop into a first-team player in the years ahead.
A new stage at Old Trafford
Cassim is expected to begin the season in Darren Fletcher’s development squad, where United will manage his transition after leaving City’s academy system. His arrival adds another young England international to the club’s pathway beneath the senior side.
The teenager was part of the Manchester City group that won last season’s FA Youth Cup, gaining experience in one of English youth football’s leading cup competitions before making the switch to the other side of the city.
At international level, Cassim has been selected for England’s under-17 team. United welcomed him to the club and wished him well as he starts his next step at Old Trafford.
