Marseille Demote Keyliane Abdallah to Pro2 After Le Havre Drama

Marseille’s third straight Ligue 1 win ended with a familiar kind of Velodrome tension: a 4-3 victory over Le Havre, three goals of breathing room gone, and a late penalty appeal that could have changed everything. The aftermath has now reached the club’s young players.

Keyliane Abdallah has been moved down to Marseille’s Pro2 group until further notice after the troubled closing stages against Le Havre. Nouhoum Kamissoko, another young substitute criticised after the match, remains with the first-team squad for now.

A win that became a warning

  1. Marseille beat Le Havre 4-3 on Sunday, making it three consecutive Ligue 1 victories.
  2. OM had built a three-goal advantage before Le Havre fought back and reduced the margin to a single goal.
  3. Le Havre then came close to an equaliser when a possible penalty incident was reviewed in the closing moments, with referee Clément Turpin not awarding a spot-kick.
  4. Bruno Genesio turned his attention to the players introduced late in the game, saying the team had lost control when it should have been able to enjoy an entirely positive night.
  5. Abdallah was subsequently sent to the Pro2 side, while Kamissoko has not yet received the same sanction.

Genesio demands greater humility

The Marseille coach made clear that he expected more from young footballers called into a match of that importance. He said players entering the pitch for OM must understand that they still have much to demonstrate.

Genesio warned that some members of the squad needed to regain humility quickly and learn from their mistakes. He described the final moments as “miraculous”, believing the result could easily have turned had Turpin pointed to the penalty spot.

His message was not about demanding goals or individual heroics. Genesio said substitutes must show commitment, work for the side and help protect the collective effort when they come on.

For Marseille, the points remain valuable and the winning sequence continues. But the club’s response to Abdallah underlines how seriously it viewed a finale that nearly transformed a four-goal evening into a damaging collapse.
