Five days before Marseille host Paris Saint-Germain, the usual rush for a packed Vélodrome has yet to arrive. Around 7,500 tickets were still available for Sunday night’s Classique, raising the prospect of empty seats for one of French football’s traditionally sold-out fixtures.
Marseille lower prices ahead of PSG visit
OM will face PSG at the Vélodrome on Sunday at 20:45, but ticket demand has been notably slower than expected for the rivalry match.
The club moved to stimulate sales on Monday by releasing lower-priced seats, ranging from €45 to €65. The new allocation includes places with restricted views as well as seats in the section normally set aside for travelling supporters.
PSG fans are prohibited from travelling for the match, allowing Marseille to place those tickets on general sale.
League struggles weigh on mood around OM
There is no certainty that the late ticket push will fill the stadium. Marseille’s difficult league campaign has contributed to a subdued atmosphere, with the club sitting 13th in Ligue 1.
Supporter fatigue and concerns over previous ticket prices are also seen as factors behind the slow sales. The Vélodrome is usually full when PSG arrive, but this edition of the Classique could be played in front of a crowd below capacity.
