Mauro Icardi Banned From Driving in Buenos Aires Until 2099

Back in Argentina while he weighs his next move in football, Mauro Icardi has been handed a driving ban that effectively runs for the rest of his life.

The former Galatasaray forward has been barred from driving in Buenos Aires until 2099 after authorities found that he was behind the wheel without a valid licence. By that date, Icardi would be 105.

The case came to light after his partner, actress Eugenia “China” Suárez, shared an Instagram video from inside the vehicle. In the footage, Suárez is seen leaning partly out of the window without wearing a seat belt while Icardi drives.

Fitness-to-drive assessment required

Buenos Aires transport officials imposed a preventive suspension rather than an irreversible cancellation. Icardi can seek a new licence, but only after undergoing an assessment of whether he is fit to drive.

“We have ordered his preventive disqualification,” the transport body said. “Before he can obtain a new licence, he must be assessed to establish his suitability to drive. Road safety allows no exceptions.”

The sanction arrives during an uncertain period for the Argentine striker, who remains without a club after leaving Galatasaray and has returned to his home country while considering his options.

Next club remains unresolved

Icardi has been linked with possible destinations in Qatar, Mexico and Argentina. For now, however, his immediate headlines have come away from the pitch, with the driving case adding another off-field episode as he searches for a new sporting home.
