In the eastern outskirts of São Paulo, a school visit brought a direct link to Madrid for students at Escola Técnica Cidade Tiradentes. Fayza Lamari, mother of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé and president of his Inspired By KM foundation, spent Monday with the pupils before arranging a video call with the France World Cup winner.
The visit formed part of the foundation’s work to broaden young people’s access to education and employment. Lamari joined the students in activities at the school, including a game of dodgeball on the court, and praised the energy she encountered in the Brazilian classroom community.
Speaking to the group, she drew on her family’s own journey from modest circumstances. “Fifteen years ago, Kylian and I were living on the outskirts and we had no money,” she said. “But he worked extremely hard. If he was able to pursue his dreams, then you can pursue yours too.”
Lamari is also the mother of Lille attacker Ethan Mbappé. Her appearance in Cidade Tiradentes gave the students a brief personal connection with one of European football’s most recognisable figures, while keeping the emphasis on the opportunities beyond the pitch that Inspired By KM aims to create.
