Buenos Aires is set to provide the final Argentine stage for Lionel Messi, with the captain’s farewell match for the national side now paired with a commemorative Adidas collection built around the country’s colours and his familiar No. 10.
Messi, who plays his club football in the United States with Inter Miami, has unveiled the shirt intended for his final appearance with Argentina. Presented under the message “A shirt for a lifetime”, the release marks the closing chapter of an international career that brought him Copa América success and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
A farewell design in Argentina colours
The limited-edition jersey retains Argentina’s sky-blue and white vertical stripes, while introducing gold trim around the collar and sleeve cuffs. The Argentine Football Association crest, Messi’s name and the number 10 are also rendered in gold.
On the reverse, rays spread outward from the No. 10 in a reference to the Sun of May, a national symbol associated with Argentina’s identity. The detail gives the shirt a distinct finish for the player who has worn the captain’s armband through much of his time with the Albiceleste.
Adidas will also release warm-up clothing and casual items as part of the commemorative range.
The road to the Monumental
- Messi announced on 31 August that his international career with Argentina would come to an end.
- Adidas confirmed that the special collection will go on sale from 25 September at Adidas stores. The player-version shirt is priced at 2,900 pesos, while the supporter edition will cost 1,999 pesos.
