Michael Penix Jr. is set to make his return as the Atlanta Falcons’ starting quarterback Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3.
The Falcons announced Monday that Penix will take over under center after missing time with the knee injury that ended his season last November.

- Tua Tagovailoa — Still sidelined by an oblique injury.
- Cooper Rush — Started Atlanta’s first two games of the 2026 season, both Falcons losses.
Rush had opened the year in place of both Penix and Tagovailoa, but Atlanta will now turn back to Penix as it looks for its first victory of the season.
Week ahead
The Falcons will visit the Packers on Thursday night in Week 3, with Penix scheduled to make his first start since the November knee injury.
