Milan Sweat Over Saelemaekers’ Fitness Ahead of Sassuolo Trip

Milan return to work on Tuesday with the players left out of international duty, beginning the build-up to next week’s Serie A visit to Reggio Emilia.

The break has offered a short pause to the Rossoneri, but it has also brought an issue for Alexis Saelemaekers. The Belgian suffered an injury to his right ankle during the week and will need to be assessed as training resumes.

Initial examinations brought reassuring results: there is no bone damage and no injury to the ankle’s capsule or ligaments. Even so, his availability for the trip to Reggio Emilia appears doubtful, with the match only a week away.

Milan are expected to handle the situation carefully rather than rush Saelemaekers back into the side. October brings a crowded sequence of fixtures, and the club intend to use him again only once the danger of a recurrence has passed.

For the rest of the non-internationals, Tuesday marks the point at which attention turns back to the league calendar. Milan’s task is to recover rhythm after the break while keeping a close watch on an ankle problem that may require patience rather than urgency.
