Madison Square Garden acknowledged that Knicks business staff and arena employees were sent a phishing email disguised as a chance to claim an NBA championship ring.
A Garden spokesperson called the distribution “an unfortunate mistake,” accepting responsibility for the message reaching employees in the Knicks’ business operations and at the venue.
Phishing message reached Garden employees
The email used the lure of a championship ring opportunity, a particularly conspicuous pitch for a Knicks organization still pursuing its first NBA title since 1973. The incident involved business-side and arena personnel, rather than a basketball operations announcement.
Madison Square Garden did not provide further details on the email’s origin, how many employees received it, or whether any information was compromised.
