Nico Williams Leaves Spain Squad With Thigh Injury

Spain’s preparation for their final two UEFA Nations League fixtures has suffered another setback, with Nico Williams released from the squad after a left-thigh problem failed to settle.

Another withdrawal for De la Fuente

Luis de la Fuente had already seen Eric García and Alejandro Grimaldo drop out of the group. Athletic Club winger Williams is now the latest player to leave the international camp, reducing Spain’s options for the remaining matches of the Nations League window.

  • Nico Williams reported discomfort in his left thigh after Spain’s match against Croatia in Seville.
  • The issue was monitored throughout the squad’s rest day.
  • As the discomfort continued, Williams did not take part in Thursday’s training session.

Medical checks confirm his departure

Further examinations were carried out by the Spanish Football Federation’s medical staff on Thursday. Following those tests, the decision was made to remove Williams from the current call-up so that he can concentrate on his recovery.

The Athletic Club medical department has been kept informed of the player’s condition during the process. Williams will now continue treatment and rehabilitation under the supervision of his club.

Spain look ahead to the remaining Nations League games

De la Fuente must now manage the closing part of the international window without three players who had initially been involved in the squad: García, Grimaldo and Williams. For the Athletic forward, the priority is returning to fitness after the thigh complaint that emerged following the Croatia encounter.
