Leon Draisaitl broke the tie late, Connor McDavid added the clincher, and the Edmonton Oilers skated out of Rogers Place with a 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
Draisaitl put Edmonton ahead for good with 2:27 left in regulation. Ryan Shea sent the puck up the left-side boards, where it caught McDavid’s knee and kicked into the slot. Draisaitl arrived at the net front and lifted a quick finish past a sprawling Philipp Grubauer.
How the game unfolded
-
Edmonton opened the scoring 2:51 into the first period. Alex Formenton fed Owen Michaels along the wall, and Michaels drove inside the left faceoff dot before snapping a near-side shot into the top corner.
-
The goal was Michaels’ second in two games. He scored his first NHL goal Thursday during Edmonton’s 9-7 victory in Vancouver.
-
Seattle drew level on a power play at 9:06 of the second. Jordan Eberle worked the puck from beneath the goal line to Bobby McMann in the left circle, and McMann beat Devon Levi on the blocker side.
-
Levi made a key stop at 7:38 of the third when Eberle fired from close range. The play went to video review, but officials confirmed that the puck had not crossed the goal line.
-
Draisaitl’s late goal gave the Oilers their 2-1 edge, and McDavid sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 18:55.
Notebook
McDavid finished with a goal and an assist, while Draisaitl supplied the deciding strike for Edmonton, which improved to 2-0-1. Levi turned aside 19 shots.
Grubauer made 22 saves for Seattle, now 1-1-0. McMann accounted for the Kraken’s only goal.
Seattle will have little time to reset, returning home to meet the Calgary Flames at Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday in the second half of a back-to-back.
