Bologna’s first week under Raffaele Palladino has brought an immediate decision point before Torino visit: Riccardo Orsolini is back training with the squad and could take a place on the bench after his injury at Bergamo on the second matchday.
The decision
Palladino is preparing for his first match in charge with Bologna still searching for a response after taking only one point from their opening four league fixtures. The home meeting with Torino arrives quickly, but it gives the new coach an early opportunity to set a different tone around the side.
Orsolini’s return is a timely development. The winger has been absent since being injured in the league trip to Atalanta, and his recovery now makes him a candidate for the substitutes’ bench rather than an immediate starting role.
In training, Palladino has repeatedly worked on a three-man defence within a 3-4-3 system. It may become the initial framework of his Bologna, though the selection will show how firmly he intends to apply it from the outset.
There is also a question over Nikola Moro. The midfielder had slipped from consideration under the previous coach, but Palladino must now decide whether to restore him to the starting line-up for his debut.
Sunday’s picture
Bologna go into the Torino match with one point from four Serie A games, a start that has already forced change on the bench. Palladino’s first afternoon will therefore be about more than a formation: it is the first attempt to give a struggling opening month a clearer direction.
