The Parc des Princes will have the lights on a night later than planned. Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 meeting with Lyon, originally scheduled for Sunday 25 October at 20:45, has been moved to Monday at 20:30 after a request from the Paris police prefecture.
PSG-Lyon moved because of planned demonstrations
- The eighth-round Ligue 1 fixture had initially been set for Sunday evening at the Parc des Princes.
- Large-scale demonstrations scheduled across France that weekend are expected to require significant police deployment, following protests held on 17 October.
- Authorities requested that PSG against Lyon be postponed by 24 hours, with kick-off now fixed for Monday at 20:30.
- The rescheduled match will overlap with the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, due to begin in London at 21:00.
The revised timetable creates a familiar problem for PSG. Last season, bad weather in the Bouches-du-Rhône department forced Marseille against Paris to be delayed, and PSG’s 1-0 defeat at the Vélodrome took place shortly before Ousmane Dembélé received the Ballon d’Or at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
Dembélé was sidelined by a thigh issue at the time and was able to attend the ceremony, alongside other injured Paris players Désiré Doué and João Neves.
Four Ballon d’Or nominees currently injured
Paris again have a crowded treatment room ahead of the ceremony. Dembélé has a hamstring problem, while Nuno Mendes has injured his left thigh and Marquinhos his right thigh.
Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia suffered the most serious setback in Tuesday’s 4-2 match against Barcelona, rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
All four players are among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. It remains to be seen whether they will travel to London for the event.
PSG nominees expected to face Lyon
Several other Paris nominees are, barring any late change, set to be involved against Lyon rather than attend the ceremony. Achraf Hakimi, João Neves, Willian Pacho, Fabián Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Vitinha have all been nominated for the Ballon d’Or and are expected to be available for the match.
- Warren Zaïre-Emery is nominated for the Young Player of the Season award.
- Matvey Safonov is in contention for the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.
- Luis Enrique has been nominated in the coach category.
- PSG, two-time Champions League winners, are candidates for Men’s Team of the Year.
In September 2025, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi remained in Paris rather than travel to Marseille so that he could attend Dembélé’s Ballon d’Or coronation, after the forward asked for him to be present. Sporting adviser Luis Campos was at the Vélodrome that evening.
Monday’s collision between a major Ligue 1 fixture and football’s individual awards night will now force another decision from PSG’s hierarchy.
