PWHL Unveils Four-Team All-Star Tournament Format

The PWHL will bring its top players together in a new all-star tournament built around a round-robin format, with four groups set to take the ice: PWHL Canada, PWHL International, PWHL USA and PWHL Rookies.

The event arrives as the league prepares for its fourth season and continues to build on record attendance growth. The format will put national identity, international talent and the league’s emerging young players into the same all-star setting.

Quick facts

  • The all-star tournament will use a round-robin schedule.
  • Teams will be PWHL Canada, PWHL International, PWHL USA and PWHL Rookies.
  • Fans, players and media members will vote for the all-star starters.
  • PWHL hockey operations will choose the reserve players.
  • The announcement comes ahead of the league’s fourth season.

Starter selection will be shared across the sport, with fan voting joined by ballots from players and media. The league’s hockey operations department will fill out each roster by naming the reserves.

Jayna Hefford, the PWHL’s executive vice president of hockey operations, said the event is designed to put the women’s game’s elite skill on a different kind of stage.

“The PWHL was created to feature the best players in the world,” Hefford said. “Fans will now get to see the highest level of skill in women’s hockey presented in a fresh and distinctive format.”
