At Molineux, where the Black Country Derby carried its usual edge, Raúl Jiménez was present to support Wolverhampton despite being unable to play. The Mexican forward watched the 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion from the stands while using crutches following a left-knee injury.
Jiménez greeted supporters during his visit to the stadium, offering Wolves fans a visible sign of his recovery after his recent exit from the side. His appearance on crutches inevitably prompted concern, although the club expect the problem not to keep him out for an extended period.
Injury suffered against Everton
The 34-year-old was injured in Wolverhampton’s Carabao Cup third-round meeting with Everton on 16 September. He was forced to leave the pitch during that match and was subsequently ruled out of the derby against West Brom.
Wolves coach César Peixoto said the injury was not thought to be serious and indicated that the intention is to have Jiménez available again as soon as possible.
Mexico call-up missed
The setback has also interrupted Jiménez’s international plans. He was omitted from Rafael Márquez’s first Mexico squad as head coach, with the striker needing to remain in rehabilitation rather than join El Tri.
Mexico are due to face Colombia, Peru, the United States and Chile during the forthcoming FIFA window. Jiménez’s focus will be on regaining fitness in time to return for later international selections, while Wolves monitor his progress after a derby afternoon spent on the sidelines.
