BUFFALO — Dallas put together another clean sheet Thursday, blanking the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 at KeyBank Center behind Mikko Rantanen’s four-point night and Jake Oettinger’s second consecutive shutout.
- Rantanen finished with one goal and three assists.
- Jake Oettinger stopped all 25 Buffalo shots. He had made 13 saves in a 5-0 shutout of the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
- Jason Robertson, Sam Steel and Roope Hintz joined Rantanen on the Dallas scoresheet.
- Wyatt Johnston supplied three assists for the Stars, who improved to 2-2-0 and have won two straight.
- Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen turned aside 14 shots for Buffalo, which also sits at 2-2-0.
- Hintz delivered Dallas’ first power-play goal of the season after the club opened 0-for-9 with the extra skater.
Robertson broke through at 9:03 of the first period. On a 2-on-1 rush with Rantanen, he came down the right wing and beat Luukkonen low on the blocker side.
Steel doubled the lead midway through the second, firing from above the slot through traffic and under Luukkonen at 9:36.
Dallas made it 3-0 at 13:57 when Nils Lundkvist’s point shot caromed off the end boards. Rantanen found the rebound with Luukkonen moving away from the post and tucked a backhand into the open side.
Hintz capped the scoring on the power play at 15:34 of the second. Johnston fed him in the right circle, and Hintz picked the far-side top corner to give Oettinger all the cushion he would need.
