Real Betis turned a turbulent European night into another statement of intent, recovering from 1-2 down to defeat Porto and make it two wins from two in the Champions League.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side were tested in every possible way: goals at both ends, a comeback, controversy, outstanding saves and finishes worthy of the occasion. Yet Betis found the response required to overturn the deficit and secure a result that will resonate far beyond Seville.
It was the club’s second victory in Europe’s premier competition, and it leaves them with a perfect six points from six. For a team stepping onto the Champions League stage with ambition rather than caution, the early return has transformed the mood around their campaign.
Betis now have every reason to look towards the next phase. Porto arrived as a major continental opponent and placed Pellegrini’s players under real pressure, but the Spanish side showed the resilience and attacking quality needed to survive a night that threatened to slip away.
European campaigns can be shaped by one comeback, one save or one moment of conviction in front of goal. Against Porto, Betis had all of them. They have not merely joined the Champions League; they are beginning to build nights their supporters will remember.
