Under the autumn lights, Morocco’s women’s team begins a new chapter with a familiar face from the French international set-up in charge. Éric Blahic, 61, has been appointed head coach of the Atlas Lionesses.
Blahic takes over Morocco role
The French coach replaces Spain’s Jorge Vilda, who had led Morocco since arriving at the end of 2023.
Blahic brings extensive experience from the France women’s national team, where he previously worked as an assistant to both Corinne Diacre and Hervé Renard. His first assignment will be a pair of friendly internationals against Uzbekistan on 9 and 12 October.
Four France-based players selected
For his first squad announcement, Blahic has called up four players currently playing in France:
- Inès Arouaissa of Saint-Malo
- Jade Nassi of Le Havre
- Hajar Saïd of Paris FC
- Sanaâ Mssoudy of Fleury
The double header with Uzbekistan will offer the new Morocco coach an immediate opportunity to assess his group, including the players competing in the French game, as the Atlas Lionesses move into a new coaching era.
