Rome is waiting for a European night that brings José Mourinho back into its thoughts. As Roma prepare to face Mourinho’s Real Madrid in a decisive Champions League tie, the city has once again shown how deeply the Portuguese coach remains tied to the Giallorossi.
The coach and the club
Mourinho’s bond with Roma was built above all through the Conference League triumph, a first European trophy for the club in more than six decades. That success has remained a defining memory for supporters, and it has now been given another place on the walls of the capital.
Street artist Drugi has dedicated a new mural to the former Roma coach, portraying Mourinho smiling and crouching while holding a yellow-and-red scarf in his left hand. With his right, he holds the hand of a young Roma supporter, also wearing the club colours and a scarf, with the trophy tucked beneath his arm.
The image returns to the night that became part of Roma’s modern identity: a coach, a team and a city joined by the Conference League victory.
Sharing the work, Drugi wrote: “We held hands on the roof of Europe. For one night we will forget the love, but we will never forget who we were.”
The message has moved Roma supporters, for whom Mourinho’s return carries more than the weight of a Champions League contest. The match may set the two sides against one another, but the memory of that European triumph still belongs to both Mourinho and the Giallorossi public.
