Roma’s season must now absorb an absence that cannot be solved on the training pitch alone. Mile Svilar has begun rehabilitation after injuring the fifth toe on his right foot during a session, with the goalkeeper expected to miss at least nine matches for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
The Roma goalkeeper has already returned to individual recovery work, sharing the first steps of his programme on social media. Images showed him wearing a protective brace and working with gym equipment, including an elliptical trainer, exercise bike and leg press, as he looks to restore full fitness.
“This too shall pass,” Svilar wrote, setting the tone for a recovery period that will keep him away from the matchday rhythm he has established in Rome. The former Benfica player also posted a Bruce Lee quotation centred on self-belief: “Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself. Do not try to imitate a successful personality; build one of your own.”
For Gasperini, the coming weeks will require Roma to find continuity without their regular goalkeeper. Svilar’s absence stretches beyond a single fixture and becomes part of the wider management of the campaign: a run of league commitments in which the squad must preserve its balance while waiting for one of its key figures to return.
Svilar, meanwhile, has made clear that he has already turned his attention towards that return. Roma are waiting for their goalkeeper; the rehabilitation has begun.
