Sabah Futbol Klubu marked a landmark Champions League night in Baku by beating Slavia Prague 2-0, becoming only the second Azerbaijani side to win a match in the competition.
Until Tuesday, Qarabag had stood alone as Azerbaijan’s only Champions League match winner. Sabah have now joined that short list after making their home debut in Europe’s leading club competition under manager Valdas Dambrauskas.
Historic home win in Baku
The hosts secured the result against Slavia Prague through goals from Parris and Joy Lance Mickels. The Jamaican and German scorers gave Sabah the decisive edge on a significant evening for the club and Azerbaijani football.
The 2-0 victory gives Dambrauskas’ side a Champions League breakthrough and ensures their first home appearance in the competition will be remembered as a historic one.
