Trabzon has become Mohamed Salah’s new footballing horizon, and the Egyptian forward is already giving the Black Sea club a sharp edge in the Süper Lig title race. Salah struck a hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat of champions Galatasaray, taking his league return to seven goals from six appearances as Trabzonspor moved to within three points of first place.
The 34-year-old left Liverpool for Turkey during the summer and has recovered from a difficult opening spell to rediscover the finishing that defined his nine years at Anfield. His three goals against Galatasaray offered the clearest sign yet that he is settling into his new surroundings, while delivering a statement result against the country’s reigning champions.
A fast response in Trabzon
Trabzonspor’s push near the summit has been driven in part by Salah’s immediate scoring influence. The club are only three points off the lead after six league matches, with the forward averaging more than a goal a game in the competition.
The Galatasaray victory was particularly emphatic: a 4-0 home result against the Süper Lig holders, with Salah responsible for three of the four goals. It marked another step away from the Liverpool chapter that made him one of Europe’s most prolific attackers.
Six-month driving ban in England
While Salah’s sporting story has moved to Turkey, a court case in England has resulted in a six-month driving disqualification. The ruling was made at Warrington Magistrates’ Court following an incident involving his Rolls-Royce on 27 March.
Court documents stated that the vehicle was recorded travelling at 36mph, or 58km/h, in a 30mph (48km/h) zone in Wilmslow, Cheshire. Salah was convicted of failing to provide information identifying the person driving the car when it was detected by a speed camera.
He did not respond to Cheshire Police’s notice of prosecution and submitted no plea or representation. Alongside the driving ban, he was ordered to pay £1,044, approximately €1,400.
The speeding incident came three days after Salah announced that he would leave Liverpool, ending a nine-year stay at Anfield. His departure followed a period in which then-manager Arne Slot had left him on the bench for some matches.
