Serie A Matchday 7: Key Injuries and Suspensions Update

Serie A’s seventh round will be shaped as much by the medical room as by the training pitch, with several squads preparing without established starters and others waiting on late assessments. The immediate decisions belong to the coaches: protect the players whose return dates are clear, and find solutions for those still under evaluation.

The decision

The longest confirmed absences extend well beyond the coming weekend. Saelemaekers is not expected back until round 28, while Locatelli and Grabara are projected to return in rounds 28 and 29 respectively. Holm faces an even longer wait, with a possible comeback listed for round 22.

There are also two season-ending injuries: Felici and Leysen will not return during the current campaign. In the shorter term, the seventh round will be missed by a substantial group whose projected availability ranges from the next matchday to the weeks before the winter phase.

Elsewhere, the uncertainty is just as significant. Kamaldeen Sulemana, Raspadori, Idrissi, Trepy, Diao and Atta remain subject to further assessment, leaving their respective coaching staffs without a firm timetable. Grillitsch, Venturino, Meichtry, Sow and Amorim are in the same position.

The list of players awaiting evaluation also includes Stones, Celik, Gudmundsson, Rovella, Przyborek, Cancellieri and Marusic. Berisha, Scott and Ilic have no stated return round, while P. Terracciano, Touré, Neres, Nicolussi Caviglia, Almqvist, Ndiaye and Elphege will be monitored before decisions are made.

Roma’s situation includes further checks on Cristante, Koné and Dybala, while Pieragnolo, Idzes, Ismaël Koné, Paz and Boloca are also not yet cleared to a defined schedule. Israel and Ilkhan remain under assessment, as do Arizala, Bella-Kotchap and Correia.

There are three suspensions to manage in round seven. Elmas, Lucchesi and Malen are unavailable this weekend, with each due to serve his ban before becoming selectable again in round eight. No other suspensions have been listed.

For the managers concerned, the round is less about dramatic change than accumulation. A single absence can be covered; a group of unresolved cases forces broader choices across the matchday squad. By Sunday, the championship will offer its usual verdict, but the work has already begun in the days before it.
