A subdued second half was transformed in the closing stages as Vinícius Tobías and Venezuela’s Mendoza struck twice in the final 10 minutes.
With the tempo having fallen after the interval, the match appeared to be drifting towards a quiet finish. Instead, the late goals brought a decisive change to the evening, with Tobías opening the way before Mendoza added the second in the final stretch.
