At La Beaujoire, where yellow shirts and long memories carry equal weight, FC Nantes may be approaching a takeover with an unexpected international dimension. Franco-Portuguese entrepreneur Paulo Tavares is reportedly close to acquiring the Ligue 2 club through the Phenix Sports Invest investor group.
Tavares’ plans are said to include raising Nantes’ profile beyond France, with American rapper Snoop Dogg considered for a role as an international ambassador. The proposal remains uncertain, and there is no indication that the artist would be a regular presence in the stands in Nantes.
Yet the idea is not without a sporting logic. Snoop Dogg has long shown an affection for sport, making him a potentially high-profile figure for a club seeking wider visibility under new ownership.
The possible purchase would place Tavares at the centre of a major new chapter for Nantes, a club currently competing in Ligue 2. For now, the takeover and any ambassadorial appointment remain prospective, but the project points towards ambitions far beyond the banks of the Loire.
