Sven Jablonski Appointed Referee for Manchester City vs PSG

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain will bring the second Champions League league-phase matchday to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, with German referee Sven Jablonski appointed for one of the round’s standout continental meetings.

The 36-year-old will take charge of the English club’s encounter with Luis Enrique’s Paris side, a fixture involving the recent winners from the competition’s previous two editions. Bastian Dankert, another German official, will oversee VAR duties.

Quick facts

  • Sven Jablonski will referee Manchester City versus Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
  • The 36-year-old German has been an international referee since 1 January 2022.
  • He was also appointed for Barcelona’s opening league-phase match against Feyenoord.
  • Dankert will be the video assistant referee at the Etihad Stadium.
  • Jablonski has one previous Manchester City match and no senior PSG fixture on his record.

Jablonski first appeared in the Bundesliga in 2017 and is now in his second season working in Europe’s leading club competition. His latest Champions League assignment involving City came last season, when Bodø/Glimt beat Pep Guardiola’s team 3-1.

That defeat remains his only previous City appointment. Wednesday, meanwhile, will be his first senior match involving PSG under Luis Enrique.

There is one earlier connection with the Paris club at youth level. Jablonski refereed PSG’s 5-3 home victory over Juventus in the 2022-23 UEFA Youth League.

His Champions League schedule has already included Barcelona against Feyenoord on the opening matchday, while the recent international break saw him officiate Croatia’s meeting with England. The Etihad assignment now places him in charge of a high-profile stop on the league-phase route across Europe.
