Thiago Alcántara Begins UEFA B Coaching Journey After Barcelona Role

Thiago Alcántara’s next European chapter is taking shape away from the pitch. After a career spent under some of the continent’s most influential coaches, the former midfielder is working towards his UEFA B-A coaching qualification through the Andorran Football Federation.

Thiago has already sampled life on a technical staff, assisting Hansi Flick at Barcelona. His education as a player included spells under Pep Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique and Flick, giving him a wide range of elite dressing-room experience to draw on.

Quick facts

  • Thiago is studying for the UEFA B-A coaching licence with the Andorran Football Federation.
  • He previously worked as an assistant to Hansi Flick at Barcelona.
  • He identified Flick’s final eight months at Bayern Munich as particularly influential.
  • Thiago praised Guardiola’s tactical clarity, Klopp’s management of intensity and Luis Enrique’s blend of both approaches.

The strongest impression came from Flick during their time together at Bayern. Thiago said the German was effective in managing the squad while remaining close to the players and treating them with humanity.

That combination of authority and personal connection helped define the kind of coach Thiago hopes to become. He took lessons from Flick in tactical work, squad management and building an authentic relationship with players.

Guardiola, meanwhile, left his mark through tactical innovation and the way he communicates ideas. Thiago described his former Bayern coach as a tactical genius, particularly in the clarity with which he delivers instructions.

Klopp’s influence was different but equally significant. Thiago highlighted the German’s ability to lead a group and sustain the intensity demanded by his football.

In Thiago’s view, Luis Enrique brings together elements associated with both Guardiola and Klopp. The former Barcelona midfielder sees the Spain coach as a meeting point between tactical precision and high-energy group leadership.

Whether those influences eventually produce a coach in Thiago’s own image will be decided in time. For now, the 34-year-old is turning an elite playing education into the foundations of a new career on the European touchline.
