Tom Cruise made a quick turn through Kansas City baseball history Tuesday, visiting the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum one night after he drew attention at the Chiefs’ Monday Night Football win over the Denver Broncos.

Museum president Bob Kendrick shared a photograph of Cruise inside the museum. The actor held a Monarchs cap while standing alongside the statue of Dihigo, the Hall of Fame star remembered as one of the great all-around players in Negro Leagues history.
The Royals were not available for a hometown ballpark appearance. Kansas City was in Houston for a road series, leaving Cruise’s baseball portion of the visit inside one of the sport’s most important historical institutions rather than at Kauffman Stadium.
A familiar face around the game
Cruise has been seen at major league parks before, so the museum visit was hardly his first brush with baseball. His connection even reaches the minor leagues: the Dodgers’ Triple-A club in Ontario is called the Tower Buzzers, a name inspired by his work in Top Gun.
For one afternoon, though, the lasting image was not Cruise in a luxury suite or on a movie set. It was Cruise holding a Monarchs cap beside Dihigo, with Kansas City’s Negro Leagues legacy taking the spotlight.
