London’s return from the international break brought a late twist at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where a 10-man Tottenham rescued a 1-1 draw against Manchester United after Rodrigo Bentancur’s dismissal threatened to leave the home side empty-handed.
Quick facts
- Manchester United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 73rd minute.

United, led by Michael Carrick, broke the deadlock when Mbeumo scored in the 73rd minute. The visitors appeared set to manage the closing stages until an incident involving Bentancur and Shaw changed the temperature of the contest.
Bentancur had challenged the United full-back, who then pushed the Uruguay international. Bentancur responded by making contact with his head, prompting a confrontation between players and a straight red card for the Tottenham midfielder in the 78th minute.
Shaw was cautioned for his part in the incident, while Mason Mount moved his team-mate away from the gathering as tempers rose around the pair.
Tottenham nevertheless found a route back with stoppage time approaching. Solanke made a slight headed touch on Tonali’s ball into the area in the 92nd minute, beating the United defence and preserving a point for the hosts.
The late goal spared Tottenham another defeat, while United left north London with a draw after seeing their advantage and numerical superiority erased in the final moments.
