Under the lights on Thursday night, Troy Parrott turned a Nations League attack into a moment of individual theatre for the Republic of Ireland against Austria.
The 24-year-old forward opened the scoring in the League B fixture with a finish built on poise and sharp footwork. Receiving the ball inside the Austrian half, Parrott first sent Philipp Lienhart the wrong way with a nutmeg before cutting past fellow centre-back David Affengruber with a rapid feint.
With the goalkeeper left to beat, the summer Betis signing kept his composure and rolled a side-footed effort into the net.
It was Parrott’s 12th goal in 40 senior appearances for Ireland, adding another striking finish to an international record that continues to grow.
