Seville’s Sánchez-Pizjuán staged a convincing Spain victory over Croatia on 29 September, but UEFA’s disciplinary follow-up has now brought consequences for the visiting federation after racist and discriminatory conduct by Croatian supporters.
UEFA has fined the Croatian Football Federation €20,000 following the Nations League fixture, which Spain won 4-1. The European governing body also imposed a ban on ticket sales to Croatia supporters for the national team’s next away match.
The sanction would apply to Croatia’s scheduled trip to Wembley to face England on 12 November. However, the ticket restriction has been suspended for a probationary period of two years.
A night in Seville dominated by Spain
Spain, the world champions, had been emphatic on the field in Andalusia. Lamine Yamal scored twice, while Marc Pubill and Nico Williams also found the net to complete the home side’s four goals.
Beljo scored Croatia’s only goal in a match that ended with Spain in control, before the conduct of part of the travelling support led to UEFA disciplinary action after the international window had closed.
