Union Berlin will be without Josip Juranovic for the away Bundesliga match at Bayern Munich. The Croatian full-back is ill, rather than injured, and joins four other unavailable players.
Union Berlin: Juranovic illness opens door for Trimmel at Bayern

SEO description: Union Berlin defender Josip Juranovic is out through illness against Bayern Munich, with captain Christopher Trimmel in line for a first start of the season.
Quick facts
- Juranovic misses the Bayern match because of an infection.
- Stanley Nsoki, Marvin Friedrich, Andrej Ilic and Oliver Burke are also unavailable.
- Christopher Trimmel could make his first starting XI appearance this season.
- Kastriot Imeri may be included in Union’s squad for the first time.
Juranovic had played in all four of Union’s competitive fixtures this term, across league and cup. The 31-year-old has operated on both defensive flanks and remains a set-piece option, but his recent Union career has also included repeated fitness setbacks.
He made only 11 league appearances last season, partly because of injuries, and also spent time sidelined during 2024/25. This latest absence is officially classified as illness.
Trimmel is the most direct replacement. Union’s 39-year-old captain has been with the club since 2014 and has so far been used from the bench behind Juranovic.
The Austrian replaced Juranovic in the 4-2 German Cup first-round win at Eintracht Braunschweig and during the 4-0 league defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on matchday two. A start in Munich would be his first of the campaign.
Head coach Mauro Lustrinelli said Union had several options. “Trimmi is certainly one of them. He can begin the match,” he said.
Robert Skov is another possibility on the right, while Janik Haberer has previously filled roles at right-back and wing-back. Union also hope midfielder Kastriot Imeri can make the match squad after arriving from Young Boys on 1 September.
The Swiss midfielder had to reduce his workload after joining because of a physical issue.
