At Energizer Park, the United States found another late surge and another flash of youth, beating Chile 4-2 in a friendly that ended amid a heated stoppage-time confrontation.

Mauricio Pochettino’s United States side followed Saturday’s 4-1 win over Peru with another convincing result against South American opposition, although Chile briefly turned the match after the break.
Sebastian Berhalter had put the Americans ahead in the 37th minute, but Chile moved in front early in the second half. The response was swift, led once again by two teenagers who had already made an impact against Peru.
Mathis Albert, the 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund player, scored in the 51st minute to bring the United States back into the contest. Chris Richards then restored the home side’s advantage in the 72nd minute, powering in a close-range header from Berhalter’s corner.
Julian Hall, 18 and on the books of New York Red Bulls, sealed the 4-2 victory in the third minute of added time. Both Hall and Albert had also been decisive in the previous friendly against Peru.
The final moments were less composed. US goalkeeper Schwake allowed the ball to roll slowly towards him as he looked to run down the clock, before Hernandez kicked him several times. American players immediately reacted, with Richards the first to enter the incident and subsequently shown a yellow card.
The next appointment in France
The United States have two more friendlies scheduled. They face Mexico in the night from Saturday to Sunday, with kick-off at 4am, before meeting Canada on 7 October at 2am.
